EASTENDERS fans were left overjoyed last night as the soap paid tribute to one of its most iconic faces in a direct replica of their first scene.

Yesterday's episode of the hit BBC soap saw Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) enter the cafe after a difficult day at work- in a recreation Dot Cotton's very first scene in 1985.

"Give us a tea, Kath!", she bellowed at Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), before adding: "And a glass of water so I can take a paracetamol".

These words are the very same used by Dot Cotton actor June Brown in her very first scene in the soap - where she asked Lofty to serve her.

Describing her early shift as a "nightmare", Sonia then revealed that she’d ‘called on the Lord’ so many times that she reckons she’s "turning into Dot!".

Legendary actress June made her debut in EastEnders on July 4, 1985, during the show’s 40th episode.
